Box Description
A Game of Grand Strategy

The year is 1938. Japan and China are at war. Japanese armed forces have invaded China and become embroiled in a grueling war of attrition. The rising tide of Chinese nationalism with Chiang Kai-sheik as its figurehead meant that China would not succumb by force easily.

The Japanese High Command would prefer to end the conflict in China but to withdraw meant losing face and would be viewed as an unacceptable admission of defeat.

Most of the much needed natural resources and oil are still under the control of the United States and Britain in their respective Asian and Pacific colonies. Soon Japan will be forced to launch a quick surprise attack to gain these resources and hope to defeat the U.S. and Britain in a few lightning strokes. However, one last great offensive in China is necessary.

It is at this point in history that Pacific at War begins.

July 29, 1941. News of Japan's occupation of Saigon which threatens the British positions in Burma and Malaya, the Dutch in Indonesia, and the American in the Philippine Islands hits the U.S. with the force of a thunderbolt. President Roosevelt freezes Japanese assets in the United States and places an embargo on exports of oil to Japan. The United Kingdom, Canada and the Dutch government in exile follow suit, depriving Japan of much needed oil resources. Japan's fuel supply is expected to last 2 years, after which their navy and army will be completely crippled. For 5 months the Japanese political minister unsuccessfully seeks a working diplomatic solution to the embargo stranglehold. The embargo continues, threatening to incapacitate the fleet of the empire of the rising sun. Amongst a heated debate, the Japanese high command reluctantly decides to go to war with the U.S. Japan executes a stealthy lightning stroke attack on Pearl Harbor, seeking to knock out the U.S. as a force in the Pacific and hoping to buy itself enough time to conquer South East Asia and many Island colonies to secure resources it needs before the U.S. can recover...
Thus would commence what would be the largest naval struggle in history.

Take command of the mightiest sea battle fleets the world has ever known in Pacific at War! Use your fleets wisely to capture enemy resources and increase your own in a ongoing power struggle for control of the Pacific!

Strategically protect and expand your empire, thereby increasing your war economy and the amount of additional ships, troops and planes you can purchase to ultimately crush your opponents with superior numbers and forces!

Out think and out maneuver the enemy with rapid and devastating fighter squadrons. Take control of the skies above to ensure victory on the ground and seas below!

Hope for the best as your scientists labor relentlessly to bring your country to the cutting age of technology, a stroke of scientific genius could help turn the tide in a delicately balanced war.
