Spells and Spell Casters adds three new elements to the core Phantasy Realm game - Spells, Magical Mounts and Walls. Spells allow for more direct interference between players. Magical Mounts can be challenged and subverted to your will. Once conquered, they are yours, and they convey huge bonuses! Walls alter players' ability to move through or interact with spaces. Spells and Spell Casters also adds two new adventures, 2 new characters, and a nice handful of new encounters to the game. The addition of the two new characters allows Phantasy Realm to be played with up to 6 players. This expansion is a KutOut Game like the base game. Please see Phantasy Realm description for details. How Spells Work While each of the new characters begin with spell(s), all characters can gain spells during the course of play - through a dice check after defeating a Foe. (If successful, you gain 2 spells.) Spells are cast at any time by any player, limited only by the cast requirements of the spell itself - all effects must be able to occur, your character must have the intelligence to cast the spell, a viable target is available, the spell is cast when it is allowed (if it has a specific time it must be cast), etc. Persistent Spells: Some spells, when cast, enhance the character in an ongoing fashion - these function like Talents. They can adjust a character's statistics up, increase combat prowess, and enhance movement speeds, and the like. Usually, these will stay with the casting character through the rest of the game... but there are spells that can steal persistent spells - so beware! Magical Mounts Magical Mounts are an enhanced Foe that can be fought and killed like a normal Foe, or, through a special challenge process, can be subverted to your will. If this happens, the Magical Mount becomes your steed and confers some beefy powers and enhancements to you. The Magical Mounts available in this Expansion are: Manticore, Draco Serpentus (a Chinese dragon), and a Draco Maximus (a traditional European dragon.) The process for challenging these wonderful mounts is a long and hard one, involving gaining treasure to buy an expensive potion that allows the special challenge to occur, then finding and besting the Magical Mount. In fact, it is such a magnificent feat one adventure in this Expansion is won by completing this process! Walls Walls affect how a character interacts with, or moves through, a space on the board. In the Spells and Spell Casters expansion there are three Walls, all of whom are created via the casting of a spell. The Walls are: Wall of Fire, Wall of Iron, and Berger's Keep. The Wall of Fire causes damage to those who land on, or move through, the space. The Wall of Iron stops characters from landing on and/or moving through a space. The Berger's Keep charges a toll for moving directly through a space, or you can lose a turn visiting if the toll is too much for you... Buy Phantasy Realm Spells & Spell Casters |
