Box Description Before the railroad, Russia depended on barges and waterways for transportation. It took months to travel from city to city. Goods shipped from Astrakhan could take as long as two years to reach St. Petersburg. But that changed in 1838, when the first railway opened between St. Petersburg and Moscow. What once took months, now took days. By 1916, there was an uninterrupted network stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean. After the Soviet takeover, Russian rails played a leading role in the country's economic growth. It is now 1946. You have been selected to rebuild and expand the Russian rails after the 'Great Patriotic War.' This is a period of tremendous economic prosperity, and it will be your railroad which will drive it. You will need to overcome interference from the Party, compete with your opposing railway managers, and develop the most efficient railway system possible. But Soviet Russia will not last forever. The day will come when the old order will fade away, and Russia will have a new democratic system. This new system will confront you with new challenges and opportunities. Will your railway be sturdy enough to make the transition from Communism to Capitalism? Or will you be swept aside by your competitors' superior planning? Based on the award-winning Empire Builder System, Russian Rails lets players experience the unique challenges of rail-building in the former Soviet Union and the republics which have replaced it. Using erasable crayons, players design their own rail-networks across a geographically accurate map. Since YOU decide where to build your rails, every game will be a different experience! Learn Geography While You Play Russian Rails is geographically accurate. The mountains, rivers, and plains as well as the natural resources are accurately portrayed. Playing the game with your children is an easy way for you to help them learn about Russia and give them the opportunity to make their own decisions. Buy Russian Rails Game |
